PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus capable of suppressing speed variations in an original by more stabilizing the attitude of the original at image reading than that of prior arts. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus is provided with: a fixed image read means; and a plurality of original carrying means for carrying the original, and uses the image read means to read an image on the original while the original carrying means carry the original at a prescribed speed, pickup guides (52a, 52b) are provided with projections (56a, 56b) for applying restriction to the original whose tail end is escaped from a pair of a pressure roller 41 / a read carrying roller 43a being the original carrying means at an upperstream of the original read position and closest to an original read position from both sides of a gap of the original carrying path in an opposite directions to each other, and the positions of the projections (56a, 56b) are selected between the original read position and a pair of a read carrying roller 43b/intermediate conveyance pressure roller 53 being the original carrying means at a downstream of the original read position and closest to the original read position.
