PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress decrease in an output level due to a spacing loss, by preventing the adhesion of a clear stain (a silicon oxide film) to the tape sliding surface of a magnetic head. SOLUTION: A protective film 16 composed of alkoxysilanes is formed on the tape sliding surface 10a of a magnetic head 10. The protective film, composed of the alkoxysilanes, is an inorganic film having no hydroxyl groups on the surface. Such a film, formed on the tape sliding surface of the magnetic head, decomposes due to the heat of tape sliding to obstruct the chemical bond between the active silanol and the tape sliding surface. As a result, the adhesion of the silicon oxide (clear stain) to the tape sliding surface, due to the low molecular siloxane existing widely in the environment, can be effectively prevented.
