<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing device and an image processing method by which a massive images can be displayed and browsed satisfactorily. <P>SOLUTION: An inputted image is resolution converted into resolution specified by a resolution conversion part 101 and divided into a plurality of images by an image division part 102. The number of divisions is determined by a division part determination part 103 based on inputted image size, the specified resolution and size of an image display area acquired by a display area acquisition part 105. For example, when a wide area image is desired to watch in a huge map image, the resolution is lowered and the number of divisions is reduced, divided images covering a wide area are generated and displayed. When a town map is desired to watch, the resolution is made high, the number of divisions is increased, the divided images capable of identifying the detailed contents are generated and displayed.
