PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk device in which a movement means for returning a tray from the outside of a casing can be operated and also appearance dignity can be maintained without providing a cover on a front surface, and to provide a disk drive unit in which a movement lever for returning the tray is omitted. SOLUTION: This device is equipped with the tray for transporting the disk to the disk mounting position from the disk placing position, a clamp mechanism for clamping the disk and releasing the clamp at the disk mounting position, a shifter 5 for making the clamp mechanism operate to the clamping position and the clamp releasing position while being moved in a direction intersecting with the moving direction of the tray, and a bottom plate for supporting the clamp mechanism. The disk drive unit A is constituted by providing an operation permissible port 8 to the bottom plate, by which the shifter 5 can be operated from the outside of the bottom plate. In the disk device incorporated with this disk drive unit A, an operation permissible port 9 is provided to the bottom surface 1b of the casing 1, by which the tray can be moved from the outside of the casing 1.
