PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal projector capable of effectively restraining noise caused in a cooling means, and made compact and easily handled when it is not used. SOLUTION: A case 3 can move with respect to a device main body 2 incorporating a projection means and the cooling means. when the liquid crystal projector 1 is not used, the case 3 houses the main body 2 as shown by (b), whereby the projector 1 is made compact, suction holes 16a and 16b provided on the main body 2 are covered with the case 3, and ventilating hole for discharging 10 provided on the case 3 is covered with the main body 2. When the projector 1 is used, a part of the main body 2 projects from the case 3 as shown by (a), whereby the suction holes 16a and 16b are made open, the ventilating hole 10 is made open, and also a distance from a ventilating fan 28 gets long so as to reduce influence by the noise emitted from the ventilating hole 10.
