PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection system capable of clearly displaying an image by improving the reflecting efficiency of image light which is obliquely made incident on the projection screen and improving the uniformity of brightness on the whole projection screen. SOLUTION: The projection system 20 is provided with the projection screen 10 and the projector unit 25 for projecting the image light on the projection screen 10. The image light projected from an observer's side (right side in the figure) is reflected and the image is displayed on the projection screen 10, and the screen 10 is provided with a polarized light selecting/reflecting layer 11 for selectively reflecting the light of specified polarization components (for example, right-handed circularly polarized light) and a supporting base 12 for supporting the layer 11. The layer 11 has a cholesteric liquid crystal structure and refractive index anisotropy acting as a negative C plate. The projector unit 25 is provided with a projector 21 for projecting the image light 31 including the light of specified polarization components (for example, right-handed circularly polarized light) and an optical compensation plate 23 arranged on the optical path of the image light projected from the projector 21.
