PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner whose handle can be always held from the upper side to be carried and is in a shape hard to be caught by furniture or the like. SOLUTION: When this vacuum cleaner is stored in a standing position, an extension tube 10 is fixed on the bottom side of a cleaner body 4. Because a gripping handle 1 has no load, the handle 1 is positioned on the side of the cleaner body 4 in parallel with a coupling section 2, and does not obstruct the storage of the extension tube 9. When the cleaner body is lifted for use by gripping the handle, the handle 1 turns in relation to the coupling section because the handle 1 can rotate against an urging means with a restoration force so that the handle 1 can stay in the position parallel to a floor surface 12 and be always held from the upper side.
