The present invention relates to methods for the identification and/or the development of compounds that can be used to prevent and/or to treat metabolic diseases, and to the use of amino acid sequences that are involved in the elongation of fatty acids in such methods. The invention also relates to compounds that have been identified and/or developed using said methods, to pharmaceutical compositions that contain such compounds, and to the use of said compounds in the preparation of pharmaceutical compositions, in particular of pharmaceutical compositions for the prevention and/or treatment of metabolic diseases.
