The door handle includes a unit for recognizing the approach of a user of the vehicle and to unlock the lock when such an approach is detected. When the door is closed, the handle is retracted into the door panel. On detection of the approach of a user of the vehicle the handle pivots about an axis. A switch for opening another door e.g. a rear door may be provided in the door handle.
