<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new glass-based foaming material which can form a stable foamed structure and be freely colored; and to provide a method for producing the same. <P>SOLUTION: The glass-based foaming material is obtained by firing a mixed powder, obtained by mixing a glass powder comprising soda lime glass, a foaming agent, and an inorganic pigment. The glass-based foaming material having a bulk density of 0.15-0.5 g/cm<SP>3</SP>and a water absorption rate of 5-205% is obtained by firing a mixed powder, obtained by mixing 95.0-99.7 wt.% glass powder, 0.2-2.0 wt.% foaming agent, and 0.1-3.0 wt.% inorganic pigment.
