PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal for enabling a user to set and listen to incoming music such as an incoming melody without giving unpleasant feeling and without giving disturbance to other persons even when they are present around the user. SOLUTION: This portable telephone 100 is provided with a speaker 3 for outputting at least an incoming melody at the time of an incoming call, a speaker (receiver 20) for calling for outputting voices of the opposite call party at the time of calling, an information processing part, an auxiliary storage part for storing incoming music data, and a key input part for receiving an operation made by the user. When the user selects a desired incoming melody for a listening test from the key input part, incoming music data retrieved from the auxiliary storage part by the information processing part is outputted from the receiver 20 instead of the speaker 3. Output volume from the receiver 20 is suppressed to almost the same volume as the volume of voice at the time of calling.
