PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte having high specific conductivity and high thermal resistance, and to provide an electrolytic capacitor having low impedance and high thermal resistance. SOLUTION: The electrolyte (E) for an electrolytic capacitor which is formed of an electrolyte (A) composed of tetrafluoroborate of tertiary monoamine (a1) expressed by a general formula (1), and the electrolytic capacitor using the electrolyte are used. In the general formula (1), R1, R2, and R3are a hydrocarbon group which may have a hydroxyl group, cyano group, carbonyl group, formyl group, group having an ester bond, or group having an ether bond, with the total number of carbons being not less than 1 nor more than 3.
