PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical encoder capable of suppressing a change of a detection signal characteristic by temperature. SOLUTION: In this optical encoder equipped with a light emitting part for emitting light, a lens for collimating outgoing light from the light emitting part, a resin optical scale upon which the light transmitted through the lens is incident, and a light receiving part for receiving the light transmitted through the optical scale, the optical scale is equipped with a plurality of V-shaped parts for reflecting incident light. Stray light of the light emitted from the light emitting part is guided toward the light receiving part. The light receiving part is provided on the position where the quantity of the stray light entering the light receiving part at the second temperature different from the first temperature becomes smaller than that at the first temperature in consideration of expansion and contraction of the optical scale.
