<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle theft preventing method and a vehicle anti-theft system capable of preventing a vehicle from being stolen even if the proper key has been stolen. <P>SOLUTION: The vehicle anti-theft system has a vehicle control part 50 to control whether the engine of the vehicle is permitted to be started and a vehicle terminal 30 and a management server terminal 40 connected with the vehicle terminal 30 through a communication network 10. The management server terminal 40 transmits the operation password stored previously in it to the vehicle terminal 30 when the operation lock of the engine is to be disengaged. The vehicle terminal 30 collates the operation password received from the management server terminal 40 with the operation password stored previously in the vehicle terminal 30 when the operation lock of the engine is to be disengaged and transmits a lock disengage signal to the vehicle control part 50 in case the two are identical.
