PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air cooled engine capable of preventing cut ends of grass from being deposited on a front face of a muffler boundary part. SOLUTION: This air cooled engine is constituted in such a way that a fan case 2 is provided in a front part of a cylinder block 1 and cooling air generated in the fan case 2 is guided into a rear part of a cylinder head 4 by a cooling air guide plate 3. When attaching an exhaust gas introduction pipe 6 protruding from a muffler main body 5 to a rear face of the cylinder head 4, a front face of the muffler main body 5 is covered with a front plate 7a of a main body cover 7, and a front face of the exhaust gas introduction pipe 6 is covered with a front plate 8a of an introduction pipe cover 8. Both of front plates 7a, 8a are integrated. A front face of the muffler boundary part 9 is covered with a front plate boundary part 10 from its front among the front plate boundary part 10 formed at boundary of both of front plates 7a, 8a and the muffler boundary part 9 formed at boundary of the muffler main body 5 and the exhaust gas introduction pipe 6.
