<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a honeycomb carrier for carrying a catalyst for cleaning car fumes, particularly, containing NOx, which has excellent heat resistance, thermal impact resistance, mechanical strengths and thermal deposition resistance and has high resistance to corrosion of the catalyst and which can be used stably for a long time, and to provide a method for manufacturing the honeycomb carrier. <P>SOLUTION: A material of this honeycomb carrier is an aluminum titanate sintered compact obtained by sintering a raw material mixture at 1,250-1,700°C. The raw material mixture contains 100 pts mass mixture (X component) containing TiO<SB>2</SB>/Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>by (40-60)/(60-40) molar ratio and 1-10 pts mass mixture (Y component) of alkali feldspar represented by the formula: (Na<SB>y</SB>K<SB>1-y</SB>)AlSi<SB>3</SB>O<SB>8</SB>(wherein 0≤y≤1) and a spinel type oxide containing Mg, MgO or a Mg-containing compound to be converted into MgO by sintering. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
