PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve the control of modulation of a tube current of an X-ray tube only on the basis of a single topogram of an examination object. SOLUTION: A single topogram of the examination object on an examination table is obtained and the topogram is evaluated. On the basis of the evaluation result, the maximum attenuation in the direction of projecting a CT image of the subsequently obtained examination object is determined as a function of position of the examination table, the maximum attenuation is stored as a data vector, the orthogonal range of the examination object is determined from the topogram using the threshold, the orthogonal attenuation of the examination object is determined as the product of the orthogonal range and the stored linear attenuation coefficient peculiar to an organ, and subsequently the examination object is irradiated by the X-ray of the X-ray tube supplied with a tube current to obtain the topogram, thereby modulating the tube current depending on the orthogonal attenuation of the examination object.
