A base station for a telecommunications network that has a plurality of digital signal processors (DSPs) #1, #2, #3 for carrying out digital signal processing required by the base station. Signals requiring digital processing are allocated to the DSPs and the signal processing requirements of each signal are met by the DSP to which the signal is allocated. The signals can be dynamically re-allocated from one DSP to another as the digital signal processing requirements within the base station change over time.
