An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) and a method of manufacturing the same are provided to improve a visual effect by radiating light through a gap between an effective display region and a non-effective display region. The first substrate(100) includes a main region and a subordinate region. A switching device for outputting a data signal of the second level in response to a timing signal of the first level and the first electrode to which the data signal is applied are placed at the main region. The subordinate region is placed at an edge of the main region and includes the second electrode to which the timing signal is applied. The second substrate(200) has the third electrode which is placed to be opposite to the first and second electrodes. A reference signal of the third level different from the first and second levels is applied to the third electrode. A liquid crystal layer(300) is placed between the first and second substrates.
