A device and method for classifying and recognizing fingerprint is provided to classify the fingerprint by counting the entropy of a ridge without acquiring a triangulation point, and to increase accuracy and speed of recognizing the fingerprint in a high capacity database. A fingerprint input unit(10) inputs the fingerprint using a fingerprint recognizing sensor. An interface unit(21) controls inputting of the fingerprint through the fingerprint input unit(10). A monitor(22) displays a plurality of situation. A CPU(23) processes images of the fingerprint. A memory(24) stores data. An external device controller(25) controls a plurality of external devices.
