<p>The press section of a papermaking machine, to produce a fibre web for paper or cardboard, has a press gap divided into an entry zone (a), press zone (b) and outlet zone (c), with a pressure gradient dp divided by dl developed along the length (l) of the press gap in the direction of web travel. The pressure (p) in the main press zone (b) of the press gap is selected according to the dry matter content of the web on entering the press gap. The pressure gradient dp divided by dl is for a dry content of the web at a medium or high level of 0.01 x Pmax divided by cm to 0.08 x Pmax divided by cm, and pref. 0.04 x Pmax divided by cm, where Pmax is the given max. pressure at the end of the main press zone (b).</p> |
