Controlled slippage whil transmitting a synchronous data stream in an asynchronous telecommunication network

The method involves performing a slip to compensate for a frequency difference between the transmitter and receiver synchronisation clocks. The data stream entering the receiver (20) is monitored (24) during time intervals to detect in which interval the effect of a slip on the data contents is small and a slip is preferentially performed during such an interval. An Independent claim is also included for a receiver for receiving an at least approximately synchronous data stream over a transport path in an asynchronous message network.
