[Also in Division B5] A press comprises a slide housing 12 which is reciprocated by a connecting-rod 20 through a screwed connection 22 and ball 24 which connection is adjustable in length to vary the shut height x of the press. A motor drive which adjusts the length of the connection comprises an air motor 58 which rotates the connection 22 through a chain drive 54; a worm 46 and a gear 42 having internal teeth meshing with crowned teeth 38 surrounding the ball 24 to screw the connection 22 in or out of the connecting- rod 20. The motor is switched on by a lever 64 and reversed by a button 65. The position of the housing 12 is indicated to an accuracy of 0À001 inch by an indicator 70 driven from the shaft 48 through a gear train 52, 55, 68. The connection-rod 20 is driven by a crank from a flywheel 18.</p> |
