Provided are a lithium secondary battery with high safety and a process for manufacturing the same using adhesive layer overall or partially surrounding outer surface of a package of the battery to prevent explosion thereof when the package expands due to increase of inner pressure of the battery over critical value. The battery(200) comprises an electrode assembly consisting of anode plate, a cathode plate and a separator located between both of the plates; a package having a reception part for the electrode assembly and containing the electrode assembly as well as electrolyte then sealed; and an adhesive layer formed overall or partially on outer surface of the package. The adhesive layer is made of any selected from acrylic resin, EVA(Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) resin, polyamide resin or rubber and formed over the outer surface of the package by applying or spraying adhesive(30) in paste or emulsion state, or impregnating the package into the adhesive in paste or emulsion state.
