Provided are a liquid toner containing an ionically complexed dye component as organic pigment having lower solubility or insolubility to other carrier solvent to provide "organic lake" substantially not containing inorganic metal counter-ions, a process for preparation of the toner and use thereof. The liquid electro-recording toner composition comprises (a) liquid carrier having Kauri-butanol number less than 30mL; and (b) a number of toner particles dispersed in the liquid carrier, the toner particle comprising (i) polymer binder; and (ii) a pigment, that is, an ionically complexed colorant compound having a desirable color obtained from a combination of a first ionic dye component and a second ionic dye component combined in desired ratio. The colorant compound has a molecular weight less than 5000 dalton and substantially not contain metals without covalent bond with the colorant compound. The first ionic dye component has a color difference more than 10 DeltaE* units from the second ionic dye component.
