A method and an apparatus for reproducing digital streams are provided to prevent children from being exposed to the harmful environment by replacing contents having a higher grade level than a specified grade level with harmless contents. A card information judging unit(110) performs user authentication using card information input by a user. A controller(120) receives and stores information on a grade level from the authenticated user and then reproduces a corresponding media file if a media reproduction request command is received. A decoder(150) judges whether a stream having a higher grade level than the stored grade level exists in an input media bit stream, and changes the stream having the higher grade level to a replacement stream to be reproduced. A display unit(160) outputs the stream transmitted from the decoder. |
