A position adjusting device of a glow plug for a diesel engine is provided to prevent injected fuel from being contacted to a heating unit of the glow plug, to reduce smoke and to improve fuel efficiency by moving the heating unit of the glow plug into a combustion chamber in starting the engine at low temperature and moving the glow plug out of the combustion chamber after preheating with a bimetal. A glow plug(10) of a cylinder head is mounted in a glow plug installation unit(18), and composed of a body part(12) formed in an upper part and a small heating unit(14) formed in a lower part. A couple of bimetals(16) are formed by bonding two different kinds of metal and opposed to each other between the upper part of the installation unit and the upper part of the body part. Outer ends of the bimetals are fastened to a wall of the installation unit, and a compressive spring(20) is mounted between the lower part of the body part of the glow plug and the lower part of the installation unit.
