A V-belt type continuously variable transmission apparatus is provided to control the transmission gear ratio in accordance with the output of a rotation sensor, and prevent a rotation sensor mounting member from being disposed in the lengthwise direction of a sensor output shaft. A V-belt type continuously variable transmission apparatus comprises a driving pulley(45) driven by an engine; a driven pulley driven by the driving pulley through a V-belt(100); a shaft orthogonal to a sensor output shaft; and a rotation sensor coupled to the shaft orthogonal to the sensor output shaft. Each of the pulleys includes a fixed portion fixed at a supporting shaft and a movable portion arranged to be slidable in an axial direction with respect to the supporting shaft. The movable portion of the driving pulley is displaced in the axial direction by a motor(57), to thereby vary the gap formed between the fixed portion and the movable portion. The movable portion of the driven pulley slides in accordance with the variation of the gap, to thereby vary the rotational frequency of the driven pulley with respect to the driving pulley. A gear device(60) for transmitting power of the motor to the movable portion of the driving pulley has gears arranged in parallel to the supporting shaft of the driving pulley. One of the gear shafts of the gear device serves as a sensor output shaft.
