A system for providing a ring-back tone communication service using an intelligent network and a method therefor are provided to allow a service provider to provide the ring-back tone service to a caller within a category and a selection option designated by a personal subscriber without selecting a separate sound source by applying to a caller ring service. A contents providing system(200) supplies a sound source for providing a ring-back tone service to a subscriber(50), and controls the change and setup of the sound source and the update of a sound source ID through an interworking interface with a service provider. A telephone network system(150) receives an incoming call transmitted from a caller to the subscriber(50) of the ring-back tone service, and processes the received incoming call. An intelligent network system(100) generates an intelligent network call to allow the service provider to provide a ring-back tone sound source to the caller according as the subscriber(50) changes and sets the sound source through the contents providing system(200), and transmits the ring-back tone sound source to the caller through the process of the intelligent network call.
