Provided are an organic electroluminescent element comprising a blue luminescent layer with excellent luminescent efficiency and reliability, and an organic compound for an organic electroluminescent element. The organic electroluminescent element comprises a luminescent layer disposed between a hole injection electrode(1) and an electron injection electrode, wherein the luminescent layer has a blue luminescent layer containing a host material, a luminescent dopant and an assist dopant which assists the movement of a carrier in the host material. In case that the host material is an electron transporting material, hole transporting materials are employed as the assist dopant. In case that the host material is a hole transporting material, electron transporting materials are employed as the assist dopant. As the luminescent organic compound for an organic electroluminescent element, an anthracene derivative represented by the formula 1 is employed.
