A camera device is provided to enhance characteristics of photographing by preventing the deterioration of the characteristics in low light situations caused by transmittance lowered by flash controlling units using a liquid crystal element containing pigments. An image pickup element(110) pickups an image of a subject. An image pickup optical system(112) is arranged at the front of the image pickup element and leads incident light from the subject to the image pickup element. A plurality of flash controlling units(114,116) using a liquid crystal element containing pigments are arranged on a light path between the image pickup optical system and the image pickup element and performs flash control for the incident light. A movement controlling unit moves the flash controlling units beyond the light path. A selection unit selects whether the flash controlling units moves beyond the light path by the movement controlling unit.
