The seal for a shaft (3) comprises a main face seal (4) and a safety seal (9). This consists of a disk which rotates with the shaft and which has a smaller diameter than the chamber (6) in which it revolves. If the main seal fails the disk is pushed along the shaft by the increase in pressure and lodges against the wall (6.1) of the chamber to re-establish the seal. |
