The fabrication of an opening in a flat glass or vitroceramic body comprises: (a) forming a fixed thinned cutting zone (3') corresponding to the contour of the opening in the glass body (1) which is overheated at least in the zone of the opening; (b) production of a groove (4) on the thinned zone; (c) eliminating by fracture the part situated inside the groove; (d) optionally, polishing the passage forming the opening.
