PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wide-angle zoom lens that realizes optical performance of a high power variation ratio, high resolution, and a high contrast by excellently correcting various aberrations over the entire zoom range while the size and weight of the lens are reduced. SOLUTION: A 1st lens group G1 which is fixed during power variation and has positive refracting power, a 2nd lens group G2 which is movable during power variation and has negative refracting power, a 3rd negative lens group G3 which corrects the variation of an image plane due to power variation, and a 4th lens group G4 which is fixed during power variation and has positive refracting power are arranged in this order from an object. The 2nd lens group G2 consists of six or more lenses and comprises, on the side closest to the object, a concave meniscus lens L21 which is convex to the object side.
