PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a thiophene-containing compound and a thiophene-containing compound polymer having a high charge transport capability and excellent in solubility, film-formability and light emission properties. SOLUTION: The thiophene-containing compound and its polymer are expressed by formula (I). In formula (I), Ar is a monovalent aromatic group containing one or more than one thiophene ring or a monovalent aromatic group; X is one or more than one thiophene ring, a monovalent or divalent aromatic group containing one or more than one thiophene ring or a monovalent or divalent aromatic group; all the thiophene rings and aromatic groups may be unsubstituted or may further have a substituent; R<SP>1</SP>is hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group or a substituted or unsubstituted aralkyl group; (n) is an integer of 0-5; (k) is an integer of 0 or 1; at least either of Ar and X contains a thiophene ring.
