PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a magnetic tape medium having excellent electromagnetic transducing characteristics and archive properties and high reliability at a low cost. SOLUTION: A high density magnetic recording medium 10 is provided, having a magnetic layer 2 consisting of a Co containing maghemite thin film having 10 to 15 wt.% Co content on a long-length substrate 1 consisting of any one of polyethylene terephthalate, polyethylene naphthalate and aramid.
