1,133,702. Upholstery supports. PIRELLI Ltd. 12 May, 1966 [18 May, 1965], No. 20888/65. Heading A4M. An upholstery support comprises an elastomeric sheet having at least two opposed edges which are both outwardly curved over a major part of their length, and includes four, rigid securing members embedded in or bonded to the corners of the sheet during vulcanisation. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, all four edges 11-14 are outwardly curved. The securing members comprise D-pieces 17 for engagement with frame hooks (18, Fig. 2) whereby the support 10 becomes tensioned and the edges 11-14 straighten to conform with the frame (19) shape. In a modification (Fig. 7), bracing portions (44) and edge portions (49) of the sheet are thicker than the remaining portions (45, 47, 48, 50). The sheet (Figs. 8, 9) may taper in thickness from its periphery to its centre. In another embodiment (Figs. 3, 4), the sheet has three outwardly curved edges (31, 32, 34) and a fourth edge (35) which is recessed to accommodate the users' legs. Alternative forms of securing members (17) are referred to.
