<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeding device capable of preventing the occurrence of pieces of torn paper related to the drawing of a paper feed tray when paper jamming occurs. <P>SOLUTION: Regarding the paper feeding device 120 for an image forming apparatus 100 such as a copying machine and a printer, the paper feeding device is provided with: the paper feed tray 1 arranged in the apparatus body 110 so that it can be drawn; a tray locking mechanism 12 arranged in the apparatus body 100, for locking the paper feed tray 1 in a prescribed position and preventing the paper feed tray 1 from being drawn out; a paper feeding unit 2 arranged adjacent to the paper feed tray 1, for letting out the the paper from the tray 1 one by one so that the paper carrying direction may be orthogonal to a tray drawing direction; an opening/closing member 8 arranged on the downstream side just behind the paper feeding unit 2, for opening the paper carrying path; and a detecting means 9 for detecting the presence or absence of the paper on the carrying path, and when the paper jamming is detected by the detecting means 9 while the paper is in carrying, the tray locking mechanism 12 is actuated so as to prevent the paper feed tray 1 from being drawn out. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
