PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the highly efficient operation even in the light load range in an electric power unit having a generator driven an engine. SOLUTION: The generator 1 is driven with the engine. The output of the generator 1 is converted into alternating-current power of a predetermined frequency with a rectifier circuit 2 and an electric power conversion system 4 (a DC regulator 4-1 and an invertor 4-2) to be output to a load side. A bidirectional DC-DC convertor 5 supplies the electric power of a battery 6 into the input side of an electric power conversion system 4. When a load current is not greater than the predetermined value, power is supplied to the input side with the output of battery power generation with the battery 6, and the output of generator power with the generator 1 is not used. When power supply capacity of the battery 6 lowers, power is supplied to the load with the output of the generator power generation, and the battery 6 is charged . COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
