PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a load detection device capable of stably detecting the presence or absence of a load on a load shelf without relying upon the color and state of the load and not obstructing unloading. SOLUTION: A dog 20 having a reflector 22 at its tip is fitted to the side face of the load support material 12 of the load shelf 1 so as to be rotated by a rotating shaft 24. When the load 10 is not present on the load shelf 1, the reflector 22 is rotated to the lower side by the self weight of the dog 20 and the reflected surface 23 of the reflector 22 and the photoelectric sensors 7 of a stacker crane 5 are positioned in an unopposed state, and the load 10 is not securely detected by the photoelectric sensor 7. When the load 10 is present on the load support material 12, the dog 20 is pressed by the load 10, rotated counterclockwise, and the reflected surface 23 of the reflector 22 is opposed to the photoelectric sensor 7.
