To fit the end of a metal pipe (1) with spiral ribs to a connector (5), a bush (2) with an inner thread (2a) is fitted to the pipe end, and the other end of the bush gives an increased diameter (2b) over the metal pipe end. The connector, with a tubular shoulder (5a), is pushed into the increased diameter and a graphite sealing material (4) is distorted by the axial movement of the connector towards the pipe. A support bush (3) is screwed into end of the pipe using a coarse thread (3a) matching the pipe spiral and with a flange (3b) at the end of the pipe, forming a chamber to take the sealing material. A sawtooth profile (2c) at the increased diameter locks with a sawtooth profile (5c) at the connector.
