PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a closed caption display apparatus capable of correctly displaying closed caption data. SOLUTION: The closed caption display apparatus includes two systems of decode sections 11a, 11b for sampling data and a display processing section 12. The display processing section 12 discriminates top 3-bits of sampling data at 21H, when the bit pattern of the top 3-bits is not a pattern for indicating start bits of closed caption data, the display processing section 12 discriminates top 3-bits of sampling data at 20H, and when the bit pattern of the top 3-bits is a pattern indicating the start bits of the closed caption data, the display processing section 12 discriminates the sampling data to be the closed caption data and uses the sampling data for display data. Thus, even in the case of a signal causing a count error of horizontal lines, the closed caption data is correctly displayed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
