The air compressor modular unit (10) has a sealing ring in engagement in an outer circumferential groove in the piston so that it is in sliding contact with the inside circumferential face of the compressor's cylinder casing, creating an air tight seal between the cylinder casing and piston. The sealing ring has a circumferential channel formed in the upper section so that it forms a base segment, an inner member and an outer member which is in sliding contact with the inside circumferential face of the cylinder casing if the piston is tilted with regard to the cylinder casing.
