Cistern for a water closet, especially a toilet or a urinal, comprises a pressurized container (1) for storing water and having in the region of an outlet (3) a valve (6) that is opened during the flushing process. The pressurized container is loaded by a pressure suitable for guiding the water without a descending gradient through the outlet opening (2) of the outlet into the toilet bowl (4). The cistern also comprises a device (5) for preventing contamination of the water by the water in the toilet bowl. The device is arranged behind the valve in the flow direction. Independent claims are also included for: (1) Alternative cisterns; and (2) Water closet, especially a toilet or a urinal, comprising the above cistern.
