<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly detect a specified signal for a detection objective by discriminating it from other signals from signals of a treatment objective. <P>SOLUTION: At a signal treatment device 10, first, a noticed picture element (p) is set to the curved surface of a medical image signal having a density direction, and an approximate function for which the curved surface within a range of a minimum mask size 3×3 centering around the noticed picture element (p) is approximated by the least squares method is calculated by a CPU (central processing unit) 21. Then, a curvature in the noticed picture element (p) is calculated as an amount of image traits by using a coefficient for determining the approximate function. Then, the approximate function and the curvature are calculated in the same manner for the curved surface in the mask size which is changed and reset to be one size larger. When the approximate functions and the curvatures are calculated until reaching a maximum mask size, the amounts of image traits for the curvatures which are calculated for respective mask sizes are inputted in a multivariate analysis.
