PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely protect an inverter unit by controlling a motor, based on the refrigerant temperature of the inverter unit at a stall starting time, and to exhibit full display of performance of the inverter unit. SOLUTION: In a controller of the motor for driving a vehicle, the vehicle has the motor as a drive source, the inverter unit for converting a DC voltage from a DC power source into an AC voltage to supply the AC voltage to the motor, and the controller for transmitting the torque command value of the motor to the inverter unit to control the motor. The controller includes a step of calculating energization possible time, based on a cooling water temperature at the stall starting time and a torque value at the time, by using an arithmetic formula or a three-dimensional map measured previously obtained and stored (step 114), and a step of controlling the motor 10 with the torque value at the stall start time, until the calculated energization possible time is elapsed (steps 116-120, 106).
