A retail bakery bread roll baking machine has an elongated transport assembly that transfers baked bread rolls to a hopper from which they are subsequently discharged. The transfer assembly (8) has an essentially horizontal longitudinal axis and is located on the rear face of the discharge unit (1). The transfer unit swivels about an axis (9) that is essentially parallel to the transport unit longitudinal axis. The assembly further has an actuator that drives the swivel action. The actuator has an electric motor driving a pinion wheel engaging with a second gear wheel.
