The light source (4) can be moved along an elongated guide (2) which is e.g. rod-shaped or it is secured to a length adjustable holder (3) extending approximately perpendicular to the chainsaw blade plane. The beam of light extends approximately perpendicular to the light source. The guide is a rod, preferably an aluminium tube with a round cross-section. A clamp (8) is used to secure the guide to the chainsaw, preferably to the chainsaw handle (9). The light source is e.g. a laser.
