Vehicle speed control method, esp. for motorway driving, by which first accelerator pedal actuation threshold corresponds to non-actuated pedal

Driving speed of the vehicle (1) in an activated and non-activated Stop-Roll mode is controlled so that the vehicle follows a preceding vehicle (6) and automatically brakes or accelerates. During the activated Stop-Roll mode, when the accelerator pedal activation is no greater than the first predetermined threshold, the vehicle will accelerate to a first speed level. For the activation greater than the first threshold but not greater than the second threshold the vehicle will accelerate to a second predetermined speed level which is greater than the first. For the activation greater than the second threshold the Stop-Roll mode will be deactivated. The first speed threshold corresponds to the non-activated acceleration pedal (8). An independent claim is also included for a speed control system.
