The invention relates to a grab (3) for lifting barrels (5) stored in a well comprising a grasp system (9) provided for example with a suction caps for slightly raising a barrel and movable arms (19) which are provided with extendable fingers (26) which are used for embracing the barrel and forming a solid support therefor. The elements are provided with cameras and optical fibres in order to illuminate and inspect the barrel before lifting it. The grab is provided with a mechanism for centring it on the barrel. Said invention can be used for processing nuclear fuels.
